Origins of the Professional Sport

Archery, as a professional sport, was established in Armenia during the 1960s and 1970s. Hungarian Ferenc Szabó and Russian Olga Budarina were entrusted with founding the sport in our country.

In the capital, it quickly gained popularity with many visitors and soon spread to other regions of Armenia. One of the highest sports titles of that era—the USSR Champion—was won by Aram Tonoyan, who brought the title home in 1982.

Club Foundation

Nairi Archery Club NGO was established in 2022 with the goal of restoring this wonderful sport to the list of favorite sports among the people of Armenia.

Our club operates as a social business, meaning all income is reinvested into the development of the club and the sport.

Among our founders are true sports enthusiasts and masters, Vardan and Tigran Adamyan, who were some of Armenia’s first professional archers and have served as coaches in the sport for many years.

Our coaches are Anahit Harutyunyan and Artash Aghayan. They were also part of Armenia’s first generation of archers and now train our club members and guests with great dedication.

The Story Behind Our Name

The first archery training school in Yerevan was located at the “Nairi” sports field, which belonged to the “Nairit” factory. That is why we chose the name “Nairi” — to revive, preserve, and develop this tradition.
